NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
