No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
