NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
