NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
