NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
