The Importance of Poker Position

Holdem is all about gamblers and position. All knowledgeable Hold’em players agree that position in no cutoff Texas Hold’em is critically important. Playing your hole cards in last spot may be a whole lot more beneficial than in early poker position. This is because much more data is gathered before acting.

For example, I was playing a $1-$2 no limit money game at a local spot. I bumbled in with 2, 9 unsuited on the dealer marker, just to see some fun. Flop came down A-A-4. A player in early position made a fifteen dollar bet. 2 entrants drop out and it was now my turn. I really should have folded, but his play felt a tiny bit off. I ID’d this guy as a weak-tight bettor, and typically if he held the best hand he would simply check, so I called.

The turn came down with a 7, meaning it was a A-A-4-7. My competitor laid a further wager of $20. I deliberated for a while, but took a chance to re-raise another $30thirty dollars on top of his $20. He dropped out and I won the cash.

Gambling at last position offers you an insight into where you stand by watching how gamblers react and bet. On the flip side, enthusiasts at starting position could use their poker spot to check-raise the last seated competitors and corner them afterwords at the end. In Hold’em, both ends, last and early should be bet cautiously.
