No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
