No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
