NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
