No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
