No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
