Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
