Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
