NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
