No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
