NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
