No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
